Not sure what do you do with your old office furniture? Here are some steps to a pain-free office move

Are you moving your office or remodelling this year?  Is it time to update your office design and purchase new office furniture?   

As a business owner, this is no easy task.  Whether you are a small business owner with a single location and a few employees, or a large corporation, this type of project can cause added stress to an already busy schedule.

There may be various reasons you are taking on this design project.  Some reasons may be that your business is growing, and you need a larger office with more workstations for your employees.  Maybe the reason is that you are downsizing your office real estate and redesigning your layout to meet the needs of a flexible workspace.  Maybe this project was inspired because you want to update your current space with ergonomic, multi-purpose furniture that will offer a healthier and more productive work environment.  Whatever the reason may be, and whatever the size of your organization, one of the largest consideration to any office design project is your furniture assets.

It is a very exciting time planning a new office design.  New decor, new layout, new furniture! But what about your old furniture?  What furniture will you be keeping? And what will you do with the furniture that isn’t going to the new office?

Whether you are renovating or relocating, we at Envirotech Office Systems offer business owners beginning-to-end office furniture solutions that will save time and money, while also minimizing environmental impact.

Here are some steps to take when considering furniture for your office relocation or remodelling project.

Step. 1 – Find out what furniture will work best in your new office space

Our team will help you with the design of your new office. They will help you evaluate what office furniture options are available, and what works best for your space, your team, and your brand.  Buying new is often the first choice, but it is not the only one available.  Remanufactured looks like new, but offers added environmentally friendly features, and can be delivered faster than new.  Finding previously owned furniture to work in your new space may also be the right solution.  

Step 2 – Make a list of what office furniture you are keeping, and what needs to go.

Step 3 – What will you do with your old furniture?  

Our team will work with you to make an effort to resell or re-purpose any unwanted office furniture; including workstations, seating, board room tables, and filing storage systems.  

If the furniture asset has come to the end of its life, we will make sure the product is disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations.  If there is still life left in an asset, it can be sold as-is or purchased to be remanufactured at Envirotech.  If there is no resale value, we can help to recycle or donate it to a not-for-profit organization.

At Envirotech, all office furniture goes through the following lifecycle assessment, in support of our sustainable commitment.  

Assets Sold ‘As Is’ – Most received assets need only a thorough cleaning and a tune-up to be viable on the previously owned / used office furniture market.

Remanufactured Assets – We extend the life of worn furniture by reupholstering, refinishing and replacing broken parts.  

Donated – Assets with limited resale value that retain their basic functionality are thoroughly cleaned and donated to not-for-profit organizations

Used For Parts – Assets nearing the end of their life cycle are disassembled, and reusable parts incorporated into remanufactured products. 

Recycled – At the end of the lifecycle, all materials that can be recycled into new products, are sent to the proper facilities.  Less than 5% of FF & E (furniture, fixtures & equipment) end up at a landfill

Step 4 – Schedule to have your furniture dismantled and removed.

Out with the old, and in with the new. We work with you to find the best time to dismantle and remove your discarded office furniture, so to make room for new office furniture.  

Step 5 – Order furniture for the new office and schedule delivery

Make sure to order your furniture in advance of your move so you can have it shipped to and installed at your new location just-in-time.  It is not easy coordinating all the companies needed to successfully relocate or redesign an office.  Envirotech offers a beginning-to-end solution and single-point of contact.
