The calendar flips from May to June and the difference is clear. According to the commercials we see on TV and online, families mark Mothers’ Day with flowers and Fathers’ Day with furniture. Fathers’ Day, it appears, is all about dads in chairs: office chairs, easy chairs, and lawn chairs.
It’s not a new phenomenon. Check out these vintage Fathers’ Day cards of dads in their chairs with a newspaper sub-theme.
These are nice images. They are deeply comforting and familiar, but they are historical. We certainly can’t swap out the newspapers for laptops, or tablet computers, to get an accurate picture of contemporary fatherhood.
At Envirotech, we would recycle the chairs in these images. We’d replace the springs, switch worn components with fresh pieces, re-cusion and re-upholster. Our chairs are classics made new for both modern and vintage dads.
We just can’t recycle the vintage attitudes!
Today’s dads deserve to be celebrated just as much for being their children’s fans as they are for being coaches, for being unfailing supporters as much as they are for being advisors, and for being nurturers as much as they are for being providers. Those are all active aspects of the privilege of fatherhood.
At Envirotech we take this progress to heart. We want to send modern, active, involved dads our sincere small but realistic wish. We sincerely hope all fathers will get a chance to sit down and relax for at least five minutes this Sunday.
Happy Fathers’ Day!
